A few days ago analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known as the most predictive analyst about Apple, made a status on Twitter where he wrote that Apple's plan to design its own 5G modem chip for the iPhone, which will was manufactured by TSMC, has failed.

The plan to equip 80 percent of their new phones with Apple's 5G modem chip, while giving Qualcomm only 20 percent of the phones, fell through.

Phonearena writes that Qualcomm will now supply Apple with the 5G modem chips for all iPhone 15 phones that will hit the market in 2023, leaving Apple with a "bitter taste".

Apple had paid about 955 million euros for the purchase of the smartphone modem business from Intel, Telegraph reports.

On the other hand, there was speculation that Apple had reached an agreement with Qualcomm, where legal action between the parties was allowed to be dropped, an agreement where Apple would use Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G modem chips for several years, while Apple would manufacture its own chips.

Last November there were many rumors that Apple would debut its own 5G modem chip, which would be manufactured by TSMC using the 4nm process node.

The lower the number of process nodes, the higher the transistor count which makes the chip more powerful and energy efficient.

Apple has tried to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm and Kuo, saying they will continue to work on building its own modem chip.
