Instagram's efforts to compete with TikTok are ramping up with the latest move from the blogging platform.

According to a "screenshot" that Matt Navarra posted on Twitter, Instagram has begun testing the conversion of every video posted on Instagram to Reels in order to reach a larger audience on Instagram and Facebook.

In an email to TechCrunch, a Meta spokesperson wrote: "We're testing this feature as part of our efforts to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram."

Instagram Reels first became available in the US in August 2020, and there is seen to be a commitment to using Reels, the short video format.

In the screenshot you can see the Instagram message, which reads "Videos are now distributed as Reels".

Instagram hopes that by bringing all videos back to Reels, videos can be more interactive, video effects are accessible, music can be attached to videos, and videos can be remixed in Reels. young.

This change is only in the testing phase, and it is not known how long it will last.

It is also not clear what will happen to existing videos that have been published on Instagram, and whether videos with a duration of 10 minutes or 60 minutes will be able to be posted to some verified users.

Last year, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that Instagram was "no longer a photo-sharing app" and that the company had shifted its focus to "creators, videos, shopping and messaging."
