Cases of coronavirus are rising again across the UK, the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

An estimated 2.3 million people, or one in 30, are infected - a 32 percent increase from the previous week, the Telegraph reports.

Growth is being driven by two fast-growing new sub-variants of Omicron – called BA.4 and BA.5.

People can get infected even if they've had COVID before, but the shots are helping to protect them against serious illness.

"Across the UK we have seen a steady increase of over half a million infections, likely caused by the increase in BA.4 and BA.5 variants."
