"There can be no outside interference in the decision to expel Russian diplomats - no country can tell another country what to do," Bulgaria's ambassador to the United States and former caretaker Defense Minister Georgi Panayotov told bTV.

Georgi Velikov Panayotov was born in 1968 in the town of Pomorie.

He graduated with a German gold medal.

"We are witnessing global revisionism on the part of the Kremlin.

They want to take history back, they feel sorry for the Soviet Union, they want to regain their influence.

"They do not want to accept and agree to Ukraine's right to be an independent state," Panayotov said.

Radulov revealed: Politicians from BSP and Vazrazhdane are meeting with Russian diplomats

According to him, so far there is no official position from Washington on the expulsion of Russian diplomats in our country.

"Let me just remind you that the Czech Republic expelled 63 Russian diplomats - a number that is close to that of Bulgaria," the ambassador said.

He clarified that according to the Vienna Convention on Diplomacy, the host country has the right at any time and without explanation to declare "persona non grata" the head of the diplomatic service and his diplomats.

"The problem of the disproportion of representations is not addressed directly by the Vienna Convention.

It is true that the Russian embassy in Bulgaria has much more staff than the Bulgarian embassy in Russia, "Panayotov said.

Asked whether such an expulsion decision could be taken alone, he said he had a clear procedure.

"It is based on reports from the Bulgarian services, the counterintelligence, the National Security Agency.

That's where it all starts, "the ambassador said.
