Russia has helped Azerbaijan and Armenia reach an agreement on a highway through the Zangazur corridor.

APA reports that Izvestia newspaper reported this citing an unnamed high-ranking source.

"Azerbaijan and Armenia have long agreed on the railway to Nakhchivan in the autumn of last year.

As for the road, Yerevan took a long break.

However, at the last meeting of the Deputy Prime Ministers on June 3, the future route was agreed on the condition of leaving the 6-kilometer section of the road.

"There are mountains in that 6-kilometer section, and the Russian company Avtodor has sent experts to the area to show them simple engineering solutions," the source said.

It was noted that the road will pass along the Araz River in Armenia, and the rest of the Soviet-era roads connecting Nakhchivan with the Zangilan region will be used until 1992.

These roads remain along the entire border line, leaving only the part of the border between Armenia and Nakhchivan.

The source also said that Yerevan accelerated the negotiation process in Baku in March this year after Azerbaijan and Iran signed a memorandum on the construction of a road from the Eastern Zangazur economic region to Iran.
