The EU and Ukraine will start trading in electricity on June 30, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson announced today.

She noted that in March, the emergency transmission systems of Ukraine and Moldova were connected to the European network.

Simson noted that revenues from the sale of electricity are especially important for the Ukrainian side in the context of the war launched by Russia in late February.

According to her, the advantage for European consumers will be that they will receive electricity supplies at affordable prices against the background of market shocks.

The European Commissioner added that this step is of particular importance in the light of the decision taken by the European Council to support the granting of the status of Ukraine and Moldova to candidate countries for accession to the EU.
