Western countries have welcomed the news that Turkey has lifted the blockade on Finland and Sweden's NATO membership.

It is the American president and the British prime minister who reacted among the first regarding this news, who called it fantastic, Telegrafi reports.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote on Twitter that he strongly supports the agreement reached between Turkey and the two Nordic countries.

"Fantastic news at the NATO Summit.

"The membership of Finland and Sweden will make the alliance stronger and more secure."

As Reuters reports, US President Joe Biden has also backed the deal - saying it's a big change in the global security picture.

"It's a big change in security globally," he said.
