There is a risk of flooding in all areas where the Kura River flows.

Head of the department of the Institute of Geography of ANAS, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Said Safarov told APA.

He said that heavy rains have been observed in Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan for several days.

This leads to a temporary increase in the level of the Kura River and other rivers:

"If the sharp rise in levels continues in this way, it could lead to undesirable consequences.

This year, the winter and summer seasons passed abnormally.

For this reason, the annual flood period in the rivers was delayed.

The rainy season usually lasts from April to June, but is expected to last until early July.

Radar observations show that heavy rains have been continuing in the western regions since late May.

There is a risk of flooding in all areas where the Kura passes.

However, the level is currently rising in the Agstafa-Gazakh zone.

In those parts, it can cross the Kura River.

Said Safarov added that there is an increase in the lower reaches of the Kura - in the Salyan and Neftchala zones:

"As you know, the level of the Kura downstream is regulated in the Mingachevir reservoir.

There is a certain threshold that after the level exceeds that limit, more water will be released from the reservoir.

At the same time, we can observe dangerous processes in Salyan and Neftchala.

In general, the decrease in the annual flow of the Kura does not mean that there will be no sharp increases in some months.

However, according to many sources, we can say that the level has decreased in the lower reaches of the Kura.

This is mainly due to anthropogenic factors.

The establishment of artificial forests and improper regulation of irrigation water leads to a decrease in water levels in rivers.

Of course, global warming also has an impact. "
