Although restaurants today boast specialties and a 'mountain of calories', doctors often note that because of the heart such food should always be avoided

Dr. Jeff Etherton says after a long time of consuming large amounts, these foods can most endanger cardiovascular health.

Chips

No fried food is actually heart-healthy because everyone has a high percentage of saturated and trans fats, two things that should make up a small percentage of our diet.

And of all the fried delights, french fries stand out as the worst.

"It's like taking a piece of pure carbohydrate and then frying it and salting it well," Etherton explains.

Processed meat products

Processed meat does not have a good reputation among cardiologists because this category of foods (which includes bacon, bacon, sausages, and hot dogs) increases the risk of heart failure.

But contrary to popular belief, Etherton says bacon is not the worst food in this category - because of the higher percentage of saturated fat, sausage is the worst.

"So maybe you can feel a little better if you fry some bacon for breakfast with eggs," he says.

Red meat

Red meat has a significant amount of cholesterol and saturated fats, and a substance that resembles amino acids and is bad for heart health.

"To be safe, limit your intake of lean red meat to less than 10 percent of your diet," cardiologist Etherton told Thrillist.
