Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Sweden and Finland have not yet taken "concrete and sincere" steps to allay Turkey's fears, DPA reported.

Erdogan's comment comes less than a week before the NATO summit in Madrid, the agency noted.

Turkey is currently the only NATO member to publicly block the start of Sweden and Finland's accession to the Alliance, accusing the two countries of supporting the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).

The two Scandinavian countries reject Turkey's accusations.

Turkey will not change position on Sweden, Finland's NATO bid for now

Turkey still expects Sweden and Finland to "change their position" on the PKK, Erdogan said, according to a statement from his cabinet.

The two Scandinavian countries must also "guarantee" the lifting of the arms embargo on Turkey, promising not to resort to similar tactics in the future, he added.

In a separate telephone conversation today with Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, the Turkish president also reiterated his request for the extradition or deportation of some individuals, the Turkish presidency said.

It is not clear which persons are in question, according to DPA.
