The leaders of the 27 EU countries will meet today at a two-day summit in Brussels, preceded by a meeting of EU and Western Balkan heads of state and government.

The meeting of EU leaders and six partners from the Western Balkans starts at 09:30 at the European Council building.

The EU announced that it expects an exchange of views with the partners of the Western Balkans on the possibilities for strengthening the accession process, namely the acceleration of the region's integration into the European Union.

The draft conclusions, to be adopted by EU leaders on the Western Balkans, reiterate support for the prospect of EU membership for the countries of the region, calling for continued reforms and the resolution of outstanding bilateral issues, including the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations.

At the moment, no concrete decisions are expected to be taken at today's summit on the new steps of the Western Balkan countries in the European integration process.

Following the EU meeting in the Western Balkans, around noon, a speech by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Layen, is scheduled, followed by a joint press conference of the Prime Ministers of Albania and Macedonia. North, Edi Rama and Dimitar Kovacevski, as well as Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

In the afternoon, at 15:00, EU leaders will begin their regular summit, where the first day will be devoted to the situation in Ukraine, and the candidacies of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia for membership.

During the dinner, EU leaders in Brussels are expected to support the European Commission's proposal to grant Ukraine and Moldova candidate status and for Georgia to receive the "green light" for candidacy after the additional conditions are met.

The summit concludes Friday afternoon with a joint press conference of the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and France, as the country wraps up its next six-month EU presidency.
