Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook Pay has officially become Meta Pay, but his announcement is mainly focused on what the company plans to build in the future - the "meta-portfolio".

Although Meta Pay is essentially the same tool as before, only with the Meta brand, Zuckerberg says the company is working on something that will allow users to manage the identity, items and payment methods in the digital world for which Meta claims to be our future.

The company has previously hinted at these plans - a May renaming announcement for Meta Pay also mentioned that it is "exploring what a portfolio experience might look like" in the area of paying and keeping your identity and digital items safe. .

Zuckerberg’s announcement focuses primarily on how the company’s meta-portfolio portfolio will provide evidence of digital ownership;

he mentions how it can be used to create and purchase "digital clothing, art, video, music, experiences, virtual events and more".

This portfolio concept, which proves that you own digital items, acts primarily as cryptocurrency wallets containing NFT.

Although Zuckerberg's announcement does not mention blockchain at all, the company has recently been working on integrating NFT into Instagram and Facebook.

However, it is not mentioned whether Meta plans to really build its metavers using cryptocurrencies or will simply take inspiration from that sector.

Zuckerberg also says the plan is to make Meta's portfolio interoperable, enabling you to bring your merchandise to "any meta-experience".

Although Zuckerberg admitted he was not sure what interoperability between companies would look like, Meta recently helped form a set of standards with the goal of bringing everyone to the same level when it comes to language and technology related to metaversen.

We will probably not see the portfolio announced by Zuckerberg in the near future - especially if it is designed to be interoperable based on standards that do not yet exist.

However, this does not stop the company from selling digital items in the meantime - there is already a store selling clothes for your digital avatars.
