The death toll from a strong earthquake in Afghanistan has exceeded 1,000.
APA reports that the head of the information and culture department of Paktika province Mohammad Amin Huzayfa told CNN.
According to him, the death toll in Gayan and Barmal districts alone exceeded 1,000, and at least 1,500 people were injured.
Twenty-five people were killed in the neighboring Khost province and five in Nangarhar province.
Officials say search and rescue operations are continuing and the number of casualties will increase.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, the tremors were felt in India and Pakistan, within a radius of 500 kilometers, along with the Afghan capital Kabul.
"Unfortunately, last night there was a strong earthquake in four districts of Paktika province, which killed and injured hundreds of people and destroyed dozens of houses. We urge all aid agencies to send teams to the area immediately to prevent the scale of the tragedy," said a government spokesman. Bilal Karimi shared on Twitter.
According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in the early hours of human sleep and the epicenter was located at a depth of 51 km.
