A British couple's vacation in Canada ended in a 'nightmare' when they were ordered to get off their plane by armed police without giving any explanation.

Retired surveyor Richard Brailey, 71, and his wife Patricia, 66, were among at least 25 passengers forced to leave the Air Canada flight before leaving Montreal for Heathrow, the Telegraph reports.

Other passengers removed from the plane allegedly included a pregnant woman, a couple with two children, and others.

And the couple was not given any reason to get them off the plane, but was later told by airline staff at the terminal that they could have been pulled out because they were drunk or not wearing masks.

Other passengers thrown off the plane allegedly included a pregnant woman, a couple with two children, at least three members of the Williams Racing Formula 1 team and the doctor for the Aston Martin team who had been to Montreal for the Grand Prix over the weekend.

Brailey insisted he had not seen any other passengers misbehave or disobeyed instructions from cabin crew on the plane.

As a result, he and his wife were forced to spend the night at the airport as they could not find room in a hotel.

The couple from Hertfordshire were initially told that Air Canada was not responsible for them and that they could not board another of the airline flights for at least 24 hours.
