"HIMARS" missile systems from the United States have arrived in Ukraine, said on Thursday the Minister of Defense, Oleksii Reznikov.

"HIMARS have arrived in Ukraine.

"Thank you to the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin III, for these powerful tools," Reznikov wrote on Twitter.

CNN writes that it could not independently verify whether or when HIMARS had entered the country or whether they were already being used on the battlefield.

Both Russia and Ukraine already operate MLRS systems, but the six-missile HIMARS version being sent to help Kiev is more advanced, with superior range and accuracy.

Otherwise, points out CNN, Ukraine has requested about 300 of these systems.

To date, the US has donated only four HIMARS to Ukraine, but has not ruled out offering more in the future.

In addition to the US, Germany will send three such systems to Ukraine, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said on Wednesday.
