There is a great demand for food wheat in our country.

However, local production does not fully meet this demand.

At present, most of the food wheat in Azerbaijan is imported from abroad, mainly from Russia and Kazakhstan.

But why does production in this area not meet demand?

What are the obstacles for farmers?

Economist Eldaniz Amirov says that the dependence on wheat imports is directly related to quality indicators.

At present, the main reason for our dependence on imports is our inability to grow food wheat.

We produce more than 1.8 million tons of wheat in volume, and our demand for food wheat is about the same.

But since we do not produce the necessary food wheat, we have to buy it from abroad.

According to investigative journalist Elchin Bayramli, although grain is grown in large areas in our regions, for many years this need has been met by wheat imported from Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, but we can increase wheat production by 3 million tons. is not used.

It is the non-delivery of state aid.

I would like the grain fund to accept local wheat, which refuses to accept the product on the basis of quality.

The state provides subsidies, fuel and fertilizers.

True, there are problems with this.

In some places, fertilizers and subsidies are not provided on time.

Such cases damage our local production.

Thus, our dependence on imports is growing.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the low quality of grain products is directly related to improper compliance with the rules of agro-technical maintenance.

In this regard, awareness-raising activities are carried out with farmers: “The main line of work to increase productivity among farmers is two directions.

Proper selection of planting material, use of well-certified seeds and proper agro-technical care.

Plowing, sowing, watering, fertilizing, spraying should be done on time.

In this way, the farmer will get more products and social welfare will improve.

Director of the Agricultural Research Institute Faig Khudayev says that the varieties grown in Azerbaijan are not of low quality. “Varieties are created in our country in two ways.

By hybridization and individual selection.

Today, as an institution, we must conduct scientific research at the molecular level to solve this question.

At present, scientific research is underway.

As a result, I think that in the coming years will be created varieties with a short growing season.

These varieties will be very different in quality from those planted in previous years.

At present, according to the decision of the Agrarian Subsidy Council last year, the farmer is paid a subsidy of 210 manat per hectare of wheat and barley.

It seems that we have a chance to minimize dependence on foreign aid in this area.

The climatic conditions of our country also allow it.

The only thing left is to remove the obstacles and barriers of multiplicity.
