Turkey's presidential and parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 2023, may take place a month earlier than planned, Turkish TV TGRT reported, citing sources from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). .

According to information from the AKP television, the elections are proposed to take place not on June 18, as planned, but on May 14, motivating this option with the possibility of holding a second round of elections, which according to initial plans should take place in July and accordingly, there may be low voter turnout due to the holiday season.

On the other hand, the deadlines for holding the planned elections coincide with the exams for the universities in the country, which may also have a negative impact on the turnout, according to the TRGT.

So far, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and AKP officials have said the election will take place on June 18, 2023.

The previous presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey took place on June 24, 2018.
