A plane with more than 100 passengers on board crashed while attempting to land at Miami Airport after landing aids suffered a technical malfunction after being hit on the runway.

The plane crashed into a small building and the communication tower, where it "crossed" the entire runway before being engulfed by fire, Telegrafi reports.

Three people were hospitalized after the accident, while there were 126 passengers and 11 crew members on board.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that the equipment for landing the aircraft failed, and came to the crash.

The plane was part of the fleet owned by Red Air, an airline founded last year by the Dominican Republic.

"I thought I was dying.

There was an old man next to me that I hugged all the time.

It was a terrible feeling.

"We were jumping from one end to the other and all the windows were broken," Paola Garcia told CBS Miami.
