The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has made a historic decision and lifted the schism of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, according to a statement from the Bulgarian Patriarchate.

Today, in its entirety, the Holy Synod considered letters from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Serbian Patriarch Porphyry in connection with the canonical status of the Orthodox Church of Northern Macedonia,

and after a vote decided: The Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarch God and spiritual joy welcomed the decisions to lift the schism and entered into canonical and Eucharistic communion with the Orthodox Church of Northern Macedonia.

The issue of the name of the Orthodox Church of Northern Macedonia is yet to be considered, the statement said. 

The Ecumenical Patriarchate recognized the Macedonian Church as the Ohrid Archbishopric

The BOC is the third in the Orthodox world to recognize the Macedonian Church.

As early as 2017, the Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church said it recognized the BOC as the mother church.
