Terrified tourists were forced to "get off the ground" by a cable car using a rope after it got stuck high in the air, tens of meters above a mountain range in India.

According to foreign media, the Telegraph reports, while they were enjoying the stunning views of the northern mountains of Shivalik, horror appeared over the tourists when their cable car stopped suddenly.

And the footage reportedly shows one of 11 tourists stranded "getting off" the cable car using a rope.

But many of the visitors were unable to use the rope to get off, including children and elderly visitors.

As a result, the group remained stranded for more than an hour before police and fire crews arrived to help evacuate them.

Authorities used a second cable car to rescue the rest of the group, with the Times of India reporting that everyone had been safely evacuated.
