The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has ratified the Istanbul Convention.

APA reports quoting Unian.net that the statement came from Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Finance, Taxes and Customs Policy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

He noted that 259 deputies voted in favor of the decision and 8 against.

It should be noted that this convention was adopted at the meeting of the Council of Europe on May 11, 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Convention on the Prevention and Control of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence entered into force on 1 August 2014.

Of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe, 34 have ratified the Convention.
