A former commander arrived in the Republic of Latvia today at the invitation of Latvian President Egils Levits, who is hosting a two-day summit of the Three Seas regional co-operation initiative. 

During the event in the capital Riga, Radev will participate in the presidential panel of the forum, will participate in a discussion of presidents and heads of delegations as part of the business forum accompanying the initiative.

Our head of state is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his colleagues.

An important focus of the meeting in Latvia will be the deteriorating security environment following the war in Ukraine and the new challenges facing countries in the region.

The participating countries will discuss the possibilities and prospects for joining the projects developed within the initiative of Ukraine and other countries of the Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkans.

The Three Seas Initiative was launched in 2015 and brings together 12 European countries between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black Seas.

The aim is to promote cooperation on infrastructure, digital and energy connectivity, sustainable sustainability and economic growth through joint projects.

The strategic partners of the "Three Seas" initiative are the European Commission, Germany and the United States, informs BTA.

The Latvian Presidency aims to implement the practical dimensions of cooperation between the countries of the Three Seas Initiative in order to ensure the security and real connection of the people in the region in a sustainable way, explained Andris Teikmanis, Head of the Office of the President of Latvia. who joined via video link in a conference on "Three Seas: Innovation and Energy Security", held earlier this month in Sofia.

So far, the Three Seas Initiative has had six summits: in 2016 in Dubrovnik, in 2017 in Warsaw, in 2018 in Bucharest, in 2019 in Ljubljana, in 2020 in Tallinn and in 2021 in Sofia.

The former commander did not host the sixth summit of the Three Seas initiative in the Bulgarian capital.

During the forum he held a number of bilateral meetings, including with the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Investment Fund of the Three Seas Initiative Beata Dashinska-Muzicka, with the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, with the Prime Minister of Croatia Andrey Plenkovich.

Connectivity in science, education, technology and innovation was highlighted at the time.

The former commander handed over the chairmanship of the initiative to his Latvian counterpart Egils Levits, saying it was an expression of the common political will to work for accelerated development of the region through improved transport, energy and infrastructure connectivity, by stimulating public-private partnerships, introduction of new innovative development models.
