Nawab Malik has reached the Supreme Court seeking permission to cast votes in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections.

Jailed Maharashtra ministers Anil Deshmukh and

Nawab Malik

 have reached the Supreme Court seeking permission to cast their votes in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections.

Both the ministers have sought permission from the Supreme Court to vote for the election of 11 members of the Legislative Council to be held today.

Both the leaders of the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance have told the Supreme Court that they should be allowed to vote for MLC and Presidential elections as it is their statutory right and they are an elected representative.

In their petition, the leaders have said that they can be taken from jail to police escort and brought back to jail after casting their votes.

Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora told the Supreme Court that this matter is urgent, so it should be heard today as voting is till 4 pm today.

SC asks registry to check file status whether CJI has considered it.

The bench said that we will see whether it can be heard at 12 noon or not.


Earlier, the Bombay High Court, while delivering the verdict on Friday, had dismissed the petition of both. - Both have challenged the order of the High Court in this matter in the Supreme Court.

Earlier, both the leaders were not allowed to vote in the Rajya Sabha elections by the High Court.
