Flood havoc in Assam

The floods in Assam have once again taken a formidable form.

Alam is that so far more than 5 thousand villages have been submerged in the floods.

At the same time 42 lakh people of 33 districts have been affected due to floods.

Take an idea of ​​how much havoc the floods are wreaking in Assam that 9 people have died in the last 24 hours.

Kopili and Brahmaputra rivers are flowing above the danger mark.

Apart from this, six other rivers are also in spate.

According to the information received so far, 1.80 lakh people have taken shelter in 744 relief camps.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), six persons drowned in different parts of the state while three persons died due to landslides.

While eight persons are missing in different parts of the state.

With this, the total death toll in floods and landslides this year has increased to 71.

Barpeta is the most affected district where more than 12.76 lakh people are affected by floods, followed by Darang around 3.94 lakh people and Nagaon with more than 3.64 lakh people affected by floods.

Massive landslides have been reported from Cachar, Dima Hasao, Goalpada, Hailakandi, Kamrup Metropolitan and Karimganj.

Till Saturday, nearly 31 lakh people were affected by the floods in 27 districts of the state.

The Met Office has issued an 'Orange Alert' for Monday, while a 'Yellow Alert' has been issued for Tuesday to Thursday.

During the next 48 hours, widespread rain with thundershowers or heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to continue at isolated places over northeastern states and thereafter decrease in intensity.

The ASDMA said that at present 5,137 villages are submerged in water and 1,07,370.43 hectares of crop area has been damaged.

The authorities are running 1,147 relief camps and distribution centers in 27 districts, where 1,86,424 people, including 29,722 children, are taking shelter.

In the last 24 hours, 8,760 people have been rescued from various flood-affected areas.
