Two days ago, the Basic Prosecution of Prishtina, in cooperation with the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, arrested two police officers for ill-treatment of a citizen during the exercise of duty.

Initially, the police stopped a citizen in the municipality of Fushë Kosovë / Kosovo Polje for violating traffic rules.

But, the imposition of the fine for minor offenses, they do at the police station in this municipality.

After arriving at the station, the injured party was placed in an office and during the compilation of the misdemeanor report, the defendants first insulted him and then physically assaulted him.

According to the Kosovo Police Inspectorate, there are grounds for these allegations.

"Through the blue line of PIK, they received information that a citizen has complained about excessive use of force by two officials.

"These police officers have been arrested by PIK investigators, on suspicion that they have committed the criminal offense of ill-treatment of official duty", said Arbër Beka, PIK spokesman.

For them, the Prosecution has requested detention.

"Initially they insulted him, and then they attacked him, the state prosecutor requested the detention of the two defendants in the determining courts", said Laureta Ulaj, spokesperson of the Basic Prosecution in Prishtina.

After 48 hours in detention, the Basic Court in Prishtina ordered two police officers to be placed under house arrest.

This is not the only case where police officers have used violence in the exercise of official duty or public authority.

Finally, on May 14, the Basic Court in Ferizaj sentenced two police officers to two and a half years in prison for ill-treatment on duty.
