4000 villages in 32 districts surrounded by water

There has been a lot of damage

to life and property due to floods in Assam .

A large number of people have taken shelter in relief camps.

In the last 24 hours, a total population of 30,99,762 in 4,296 villages in 32 districts of the state has been affected by the floods.

In the last 24 hours 8 people have lost their lives.

Now a total of 62 people have died since April, out of which 51 have lost their lives in floods and 11 in landslides.

At the same time, more than a total of 66455.82 hectares of cultivable land has been affected due to floods. 

514 relief camps and 302 relief distribution centers have been opened in the flood-affected areas.

A total of 1,56,365 people are taking shelter in these relief camps.

Let us inform that in Assam, a population of more than 30 lakhs has been affected by the floods.

In 32 districts of the state, more than 4 thousand villages are submerged in water and more than 1.56 lakh people are in relief camps.

On the other hand, heavy rain continues in the neighboring state of Meghalaya for the last 24 hours.

Incessant rains in West Tripura on Saturday caused damage to life and property.

The Tripura government has engaged NDRF, Assam Rifles personnel to assist the state security forces to intensify the rescue and relief operations.

Hundreds of people have taken shelter in relief camps in Agartala.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took information from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma about the current flood situation in the state and assured all possible help from the Centre.

The officials gave this information.

He said that Sarma is visiting several relief camps on Saturday where flood-affected people have taken shelter. 

A boat carrying flood-affected people capsized in Assam's Hojai district, missing three children while 21 others were rescued, officials said.

He said that a group of 24 villagers were moving towards a safer place from Islampur village late on Friday night when their boat capsized after colliding with an submerged brick-kiln in Raikota area. 

PM Modi tweeted, "Earlier today, spoke to the Chief Minister of Assam and took stock of the situation due to floods in the state.

Assured of all possible help from the centre.

I pray for the safety and well being of the people of Assam affected by the floods. 

Sarma, while replying to the tweet of the Prime Minister, thanked him.

Sarma tweeted, "Prime Minister Modi called me today at 6 am to take stock of the flood situation in Assam.

Expressing concern over the difficulties being faced by the people due to this natural calamity, the Prime Minister assured all possible help from the Central Government.

Grateful for his assurance and generosity.

The chief minister visited flood-hit Rangiya in Kamrup district and reviewed the situation with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam unit chief and local MLA Bhavesh Kalita.

Sarma also visited Fatima Convent School and relief camps in Kolajal.

Sarma said, "The officials concerned have been instructed to evacuate the people from the sensitive areas.

The army is ready to provide assistance.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel are taking the affected people to safer places.

Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by the Central Water Commission (CWC) on Saturday said that the Kopili river is flowing above the danger mark at Kampur in Nagaon district.

Other rivers including Brahmaputra, Jia-Bharali, Puthimari, Manas, Beki, Barak and Kushiyara are flowing above the danger mark, the bulletin said.
