A 31-year-old man lost his life in Villers-sur-Mer off the coast of Normandy in France when strong winds hit the windows of a restaurant.

A small tornado but with very strong winds hit the beaches of Normandy, causing five people to be hospitalized and another to die, Telegrafi reports.

Another person was considered missing, but after search-and-rescue teams went to the scene, he was found.

The French media have described the wind as a "mini-tornado" - without specifying the strength of the wind.

The amateur footage posted below, shows vacationers covered in sand as a result of strong winds, where tents, umbrellas and everything else that was on the beach soared into the air.

Thierry Granturco, mayor of Villers-sur-Mer, described the winds as "unprecedented violence on the coast".

These winds lasted from 20 to 25 minutes on the Cote Fleurie between Ouistreham and Deauville.

It was an unexpected phenomenon that was not warned by Meteo-France, the organization that monitors climate change.
