Canan Kaftancıoglu was sentenced to almost five years in prison and banned from engaging in politics.

Her "crime" was the publication of messages on social networks that insulted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan several years ago.

She was transferred to jail on May 31, but was released immediately.

Her case, she says, shows what the Turkish opposition can expect in the coming months.

She is a member of the main opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP).

The judicial system is under Erdogan's jurisdiction, she says.

"Courts decide on the basis of what goes through the lips of the man (Erdogan) of the palace," he added.

The presidential and parliamentary elections awaiting Erdogan next year appear to be the most difficult in his long career.

Turkey's official inflation rate has now exceeded an incredible 73 percent.

As the economy is currently in an irreparable state, Erdogan instead decided to look for "enemies" inside and outside the country.
