Among young mothers, the feeling of having legs longer and wider than before pregnancy is quite common

Now, a study from the University of Iowa (USA) confirms that it is not just a suggestion.

In fact, pregnancy can change the shape and size of the legs, even irreversibly, writes focus.it.

The researchers verified this by measuring the lower limbs of 49 women, during the first trimester and five months after giving birth.

In 60-70 percent of cases the leg was longer and wider.

Especially the changes are related to the arch of the foot, which decreases after birth, flattening results in an extension of the leg by 2-10 millimeters.

The phenomenon appears after the first pregnancy, while usually does not appear in later ones.

The causes, according to the researchers, must be found in the weight gain and in the greater elasticity of the ligaments that occur during pregnancy.
