The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, chaired the next meeting of the Security Council on "Cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional (EU) organizations".

During his speech at the meeting, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell Fontelles, said that multilateralism is under pressure like never before and that there is a need for global cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.

"Europe stands by its partners.

We support the role of the UN, including the Global Crisis Response Team.

EU sanctions are not the cause of food shortages.

"They only aim to stop the Kremlin from being able to finance military aggression - not to carry out legitimate trade," Borrell said in a statement.

On the other hand, Minister Xhaçka praised the close cooperation between the UN and the EU, describing it as essential in addressing the growing and complexity of crises facing international peace and security.

"We strongly believe that the crises that the world is facing call for more multilateralism, for more unified and coordinated action, including above all the Security Council, the General Assembly and the entire UN system.

"The EU is the largest financial contributor, therefore, it must influence and design its actions related to humanitarian, development and conflict resolution issues worldwide," she said.

Chief diplomat Xhaçka emphasized the support of the European Commission for EU enlargement, as she said that Albania is ready to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference.

"We are pleased to say that we have done our part and are ready for the next chapter, in a process that must move forward with its invaluable political weight, an irreversible investment towards stability, security and a "of a secure common future," she said.
