The European Commission announced today that in the last four years the number of participants in the efforts to counter disinformation online has doubled and among them are now 33 companies and organizations, BTA reported.

Participants include Vimeo, Twitter, Twitch, TickTock, Microsoft, Meta, Adobe, Google, Reporters Without Borders.

The European Commission today presented additional guidelines to combat the spread of misinformation, which include detecting manipulative behavior through false profiles, depriving disseminators of disinformation of advertising revenue, giving users an easier opportunity to detect and report misleading publications.

It is planned to increase the possibilities for fact-checking in all countries and in all EU languages, as well as to increase the transparency of political advertising.

Participants promise to monitor and restrict ads to disinformation sites and disinformation ads.

The Commission recommends that clear indications of political advertising be placed in the future in order to increase clarity for consumers.

In addition, participants will adopt a common definition of manipulative online behavior in the dissemination of misinformation, which includes fake and stolen profiles, bots, organized disinformation campaigns.

The exchange of data on identified abuses will be facilitated.

The Commission shall give six months for the implementation of the measures.

Participants are expected to report on progress early next year.
