The preparation of "Moderna" is for children aged 6 months to 5 years, and of "Pfizer / BioNTek" - from 6 months to 4 years.

The experts' opinion is an important step towards the possibility of immunizing children under the age of five, for whom no vaccine against the new coronavirus has been offered in the United States so far.

It is about 18 million children.

The agency is expected to approve COVID-19 vaccines for the youngest ones soon.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will then make recommendations for the use of the drugs in this age group.

If the whole regulatory process goes smoothly, the first doses will be available next week.

In the United States, many parents want to vaccinate their children, but it is unclear how much interest there will be in these vaccines.

Pfizer / BioNTech was approved in October for children aged 5 to 11, but only 29 percent of children in this group have been fully vaccinated against the infection, BTA notes.
