The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Boris Johnson has sent a letter to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on June 16 in connection with the IX Global Baku Forum on "Threats to the Global Order".

APA reports that the letter reads:

"I congratulate you on the opening of the IX Global Baku Forum. I thank you once again for giving this important opportunity to former, current and future leaders to consider the most pressing issues of the day.

I welcome your decision to raise the issue of Russia's illegal and unjustified occupation of Ukraine as the main topic of discussion at the Forum.

Russia's attack on Ukraine's territorial integrity is an attack on global peace and security.

The brutal killings and large-scale destruction in Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities offer a frightening view of the future - a violation of international law and disrespect for the sovereignty of independent states.

Russia's actions will have dire consequences for security and the wider world - just look at the impact of Putin's heinous blockade on global food security.

We must take joint action by arming Ukraine's brave defenders, providing live humanitarian and economic assistance, and ensuring Russia's withdrawal from Ukraine.

You also highlighted the issue of energy security and transformation.

We are now approaching the two most intensive parallel stages of rebuilding our energy supply.

We must cut ties with Russia's fuel reserves.

Alternative suppliers such as Azerbaijan have a big role to play.

At the same time, climate change is no longer a theory.

Today, the reality of warmer, drier and more variable weather is damaging habitats and ending lives.

To prevent the worst effects of climate change in the future, we must reach a net zero by switching to renewable energy as soon as possible.

These two driving forces of change will invest heavily in renewable energy in the coming months and years.

In addition to the forum, I know that after the pandemic, Azerbaijan opened a business year and had a successful year, successfully hosting the EURO 2020 football tournament and Formula 1.

Your armed forces, along with NATO in Kabul, have shown heroism and professionalism to support the coalition at the airport until the last moment.

The restoration of the western regions, which you liberated from occupation in 2020, is undoubtedly the most important goal for your people.

These regions have the opportunity to become a new center for culture, environmental technologies and innovations.

However, post-conflict pollution remains an obstacle.

Mines and other weapons have polluted the area.

I am glad that British demining specialists and companies are working together with their Azerbaijani counterparts to eliminate this threat.

This would be a major step towards reconciliation and the successful resettlement of those lands, and would demonstrate Azerbaijan's regional leadership in its commitment not to plant new mines and to sign an agreement to ban anti-personnel mines.

Please accept my best wishes for the success of the Forum. "
