US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dr. Karen Donfried will visit Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia from June 14 to 19 to highlight the United States' commitment to peace, democracy and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

The US Embassy in Azerbaijan told APA that Assistant Secretary of State Donfried will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the three countries, emphasize US support for their sovereignty and independence, and the right of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia to choose their path. .

He also stressed that the United States is ready to help build lasting peace in the South Caucasus by supporting the development of political, economic and people-to-people contacts throughout the region.

Dr. Donfried will visit Baku on June 15 and 16 to meet with President Ilham Aliyev, other government officials and civil society representatives.

The Assistant Secretary of State will emphasize US support for diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, thank Azerbaijan for its humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, and emphasize Europe's support for energy security, combating transnational threats, supporting fundamental freedoms and promoting bilateral trade and investment.

On June 17, Assistant Secretary of State Donfried will visit Tbilisi and address the Tbilisi International Women's Conference organized by President Salome Zurabishvili.

Dr. Donfried will also meet in Tbilisi with Prime Minister Garibashvili and other government officials, opposition and civil society representatives to discuss the Kremlin's unwarranted war against Ukraine and the United States' continued support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

The Assistant Secretary will also discuss how the United States can continue to support Georgia in promoting democratic development and the rule of law, diversifying the Georgian economy, and building a prosperous future.

Assistant Secretary of State Donfried will then travel to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, on June 18 to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other government officials.

The Assistant Secretary of State will express US support for diplomatic efforts toward lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
