The three electricity companies operating at regulated prices (EMV is set by the Government, KRRE tariff for Electricity Distribution and the margin of the universal supplier EVN Home) last year had a loss that reached almost 70 million euros.

Why are they at a loss?

Mainly because they produce or buy at a price that is higher than the price at which they have to sell electricity.

Who will pay?

All of us, there is no one else!

Because they have a fixed price and this cost must be covered, otherwise they go bankrupt.

After that, do we have little room to trust the new tariff groups that the Energy Regulatory Commission offers as a salvation, no matter how fair and good they may be?

Not to mention the sensitivity towards companies that have been left at the mercy of stock market prices, for which the President of the Chamber of Commerce Branko Azeski has appealed several times, but none of the officials moved a finger…

Will it cost as much as a kilowatt hour of electricity for households?

The main topic in the local media and with this analogy in the local public.

Everyone wants to know how much the electricity bill will be, especially those who in the heating season after being drawn by the populist masses created by shallow analysis and buying inverters and now have no alternative.

And there are many and they are particularly concentrated in the capital Skopje, writes in the detailed analysis Factor.Mk.

"Factor" as many times before will treat this current topic analytically by presenting and processing financial data in a realistic framework.

Our goal is to provide an objective and analytical overview on the financial instability of the current situation of energy companies operating at regulated prices.

EMV is a state-owned company that produces electricity and is obliged to cover over 60 percent of the electricity needs of households and micro companies.

Last year, the price offered in the tender for the supply company was approved by the Government as its sole shareholder.

The sale price was about 41 euros per megawatt hour.

Although unofficially the production price is 20 euros higher.

Last year EMV closed with a loss of 28.1 million euros and together with 2020 the accumulated loss from EMV is 50 million euros.

We will see what price it will offer soon in the next tender of the universal supplier, but it is unlikely to be a market price, so at least it can cover production costs.

Electricity Distributor is part of EVN Macedonia Holding and is by far the largest distribution operator in the country.

The price for his service is regulated, and is determined by KRRE based on the costs of the company.

Last year, the Electricity Distributor had a loss of almost 40 million euros, while revenues from the sale of services were 166 million euros.

It is clear that the change of the regulated tariff is necessary as the bankruptcy of this company is endangered.

The eventual change of the tariff will probably mean an increase in the price of the service and this will affect the final price of electricity.

Last year, the universal supplier "EVN Home" also lost money, which especially during the last heating season was under great pressure from customers whose other suppliers terminated their commercial contracts.

This is the largest electricity supplier in the country, which last year had revenues of over 335 million euros.

This company closed the year with a loss of more than 700 thousand euros.

In 2020, the loss of this company amounted to 12 million euros.

These figures show that the business model is controversial and unstable and the question is whether the company can respond to the challenges and uncertainties in such a business environment in the future?

Under these conditions these companies may not stand and file for bankruptcy.
