Severodonetsk in eastern Ukraine, which has been a hotbed of fierce fighting in recent weeks, has not yet been completely blocked by Russian troops, despite controlling 80 percent of the city.

Luhansk regional governor Serhiy Haidai said Russian forces had destroyed three bridges connecting other cities, making it impossible to open humanitarian corridors to civilians.

He added that more than 500 civilians had been sheltered at the Nitrogen chemical plant, which was also the target of Russian military airstrikes.

About 12 thousand people continue to be in the city, which before the war broke out had over 100 thousand inhabitants.
