The Municipality of Prishtina has responded positively to the Islamic Community of Kosovo (BIK) for its request to the local institution for a construction permit for the Central Mosque in Prishtina.

The mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, through a note on Facebook has been praised for "putting on the right rails" the process of building the mosque.

"This process was accompanied by lengthy procedures, with the provision of BIK with construction conditions in 2017, which were supplemented with changes later in 2020, when they were also provided with the permit for securing the excavation pit."

Rama says that the citizens of the neighborhoods associated with the new mosque should enjoy the right to practice their religion in a dignified manner.

"Citizens of 'Dardania' and 'Ulpiana' neighborhoods should enjoy the right to practice their religion in a dignified manner.

Therefore, we are happy that finally, today we concluded this process with the issuance of a construction permit for the construction of this religious facility.

According to the decision dated June 13, the Islamic Community is allowed to build the complex "Central Mosque" in Pristina.

"The applicant is ALLOWED, the Islamic Community of Kosovo, to build a mosque in the Dardania neighborhood in Prishtina, in the framework of the Municipal Development Plan of Prishtina", it is stated in the decision of the municipality of Prishtina.

The construction of this large mosque has been a request of the Islamic Community of Kosovo (BIK) since the end of the war, arguing that there is no place in the existing mosques for the prayers of Muslim believers.

The Islamic Community demanded that the Great Mosque be built in the center of Prishtina, but the Municipality of Prishtina had difficulty finding the location.

After many debates and negotiations that have lasted for years, the Municipality of Prishtina and BIK agreed that the mosque be built in the Dardania neighborhood, in the parking lot of Telecom of Kosovo.

The foundation stone of the mosque was laid in 2012, but from that time until the beginning of the works there were difficulties in the realization of the project by BIK./
