Death from narcotics overdose is estimated to be mostly caused by mixing drugs and using a variety of them.

Over the years statistics show that over 100 people have lost their lives as a result of drug overdose.

Mixing the types of drugs and using their variety, seems to have increased the number of people who lose their lives as a result of drug overdose.

Kosovo Police does not have data on the number of deaths from overdose, however according to them, only in 2022 were seized about 200 kg of heroin.

It is this type of drug that causes the most frequent deaths, say the Labyrinth Institute.

"Most of the deaths were due to the use of heroin, which is very dangerous for overdose.

"While we have noticed that the last two years there has been a lot of problems with the risk of death from overdoses, multiple drug users, so those who use a variety of drugs is the main risk factor for death from overdoses since cocaine of all other types." , said Safet Blakaj.

The Labyrinth Institute, which treats drug addicts, says more than 100 people have died from overdoses over the years.

"The year that had the most deaths from drugs was 2013, which was 17 people within the year, in other years the number gradually decreased, while for example last year we had only 4 deaths, 2020, 6 people, year 2019, 9 people and so on ", added Blakaj.

But, according to psychologist Dorjan Krasniqi, the lack of information about drugs, makes certain people reach the overdose.

"Lack of accurate information from people who try to experiment with these drugs leads to consumption and addiction to narcotic substances.

However, there may also be social pressure, when an individual belongs to a group where narcotics are consumed then the person may feel that he or she should do the same to be more easily accepted by the group.

"It can also be the loss of persons and serious life events", said Krasniqi.

According to police data, during 2022, in addition to heroin, a large number of marijuana and cocaine were seized.
