Employment in Italy increased by 0.5%, which is 120,000 more employees in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter and 4.1% or 905,000 more employees compared to the same quarter of 2021, said the Italian ANSA, citing a statement from the Italian statistical agency ISTAT on Monday.

This is after a decline for nine consecutive quarters, according to ISTAT.

Permanent jobs increased by 2.6%, or 369,000, and fixed-term contracts increased by 16.3% or 412,000, while the self-employed increased by 2.6% or 124,000 more.

The number of unemployed has decreased by 16% or 415,000 people on an annual basis.

The number of inactive people between the ages of 15 and 64 has fallen to 6.1% or 846,000 over the past 12 months.

The unemployment rate has fallen to 8.6%.
