The former football player of Miner (Pernik) Rumen Andonov has been beaten, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior announced.

Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted for inflicting moderate bodily harm.

The victim has a broken jaw and is accommodated in a medical institution in Sofia.

According to the victim's family, the perpetrator is a young kickboxing champion who is the son of a local prosecutor.

"In order to ensure the impartiality of the investigation, prosecutors from the District Prosecutor's Office have recused themselves. The materials of the investigation are to be sent to the Prosecutor General for another District Prosecutor's Office," said Albena Stoilova, spokeswoman for the Pernik District Prosecutor's Office.  

Rumen Andonov, 61, is now president of FC Krakra 1919. Prior to that, he had 14 years of professional football experience in Minyor (Pernik), half of which he was captain of the team.
