Shqipe Mehmeti-Selimi had left Germany and as a 14-year-old had come to Kosovo and seized a weapon to defend the homeland.

For her and her family, it was important to become part of the KLA, as she had grown up with that spirit since childhood.

Together with her father Fatmir Mehmeti, she went to fight in the Karadak Area, where she occasionally translated, until the end of the war, which this Sunday turned 23 years old.

Emotions were strong when they reunited on June 12, 1999, with the rest of the family, 6 months after they knew nothing about their fate, reports Klan Kosova.

But the freedom that Kosovo enjoys today, for the former soldier is not complete without the companion of her life, one of the founders of the army, Rexhep Selimi, who together with friends are being tried in The Hague.

This is unfair to a former KPC member.

For 12 years now, Mehmeti-Selimi is part of the Vetëvendosje Movement, which this June 12 marked 17 years since its founding.

As an MP, she believes that the party is on the right track to lead the country.
