A Bolivian court has convicted former president Jeanine Anez of plotting to overthrow him during a political crisis in 2019 and sentence him to ten years in prison.

The court found the 54-year-old, who was the leader of Bolivia from 2019 to 2020 after Eva Morales, guilty of making decisions contrary to the constitution and negligence of office.

The prosecution said Anez, a former right-wing senator, has violated norms guaranteeing constitutional and democratic order following Bolivia's 2019 presidential election.

The court also convicted the former military commander and former police chief.

The court said Anez will serve her sentence in the La Paz women's prison.
