Germany is serious about the European integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, and this is especially true of Northern Macedonia.

In 2003, in Thessaloniki, the EU made a promise to the Western Balkans, and we must keep our promise, especially with regard to the Republic of Northern Macedonia, which has fulfilled all the preconditions for starting EU accession negotiations.

The Western Balkans are of strategic importance to Germany, and I am committed to joining the European Union, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told a joint news conference with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski during a visit to Skopje.

Scholz emphasized his satisfaction with the political force (SDSM), which has made it possible to reach an agreement with Greece.

"That is why the rest of the task must be successfully completed, and this is something that the citizens of Northern Macedonia and the government are working hard for.

We must make every effort for the country to start EU accession negotiations, and I will stand up for that.

"I encourage Northern Macedonia to continue on the path of reform," he said.

Kovachevski: Our commitment to EU membership is clear, now the EU is on the move

"The support we receive from the Federal Republic of Germany is strong and unequivocal.

This support encourages us to build a prosperous society based on European values, as an equal partner of the Federal Republic of Germany and other EU member states, said the Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevski at a joint press conference, adding that Scholz's visit the EU summit is a strong sign of support for the criteria met by northern macedonia.

"The common goals are for our country to be a member of the EU," Kovachevski said.
