Tila More police of Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday arrested Hindu Raksha Dal functionary (Ghaziabad Hindu leader) Chaudhary Ishu Shikharwar for posting objectionable posts on Facebook.

This action has come at a time when many districts including Kanpur, Saharanpur, Prayagraj of UP witnessed violence on Friday.

Violence erupted in these cities during protests over controversial remarks of BJP spokesperson on Prophet Mohammad.

Hindu leader Shikharwar had allegedly made objectionable remarks against the religion of another community in favor of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

The police have taken action after taking cognizance of a tweet by Akbar Chaudhary, the state general secretary of the Congress Minority Cell.

Police Officer Seema Anshu Jain said that on receiving the complaint, the police reached the spot and arrested Chaudhary Ishu Shikharwar, the convener of Hindu Raksha Dal, on the post spreading hatred on Facebook.

In Delhi, the Students Islamic Organization and Muslim Student Federation demonstrated in front of the Arts Faculty demanding the arrest of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and sacked Naveen Jindal for their alleged objectionable remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

The student group also demonstrated against the violence that took place during the protests in different parts of the country on Friday.


The Students Islamic Organization claimed that it and several activists of the Muslim Students Federation were detained by the police during a protest near the Arts Faculty of Delhi University.

A senior police officer said that around 4.30 pm, around 35 people gathered outside the arts faculty and demonstrated.

They had received information that they did not have permission, so they had to be removed from there.
