A small Beechcraft twin-engine aircraft with two people on board flew low into the airspace of Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Bulgaria on Wednesday night.

The plane was intercepted by the Hungarian Air Force, US F-16 planes and Romanian F-16 planes, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced, Nova TV reported.

"We clarify that the plane in question, which flew in Romanian airspace on the route Oradea - Caransebes - Drobeta Turnu Severin, did not show hostile or dangerous behavior.

At no time, however, did the pilot of the plane respond to attempts to establish radio communication, nor to the visual signals transmitted by the intercepting military aircraft in accordance with international standards, "said a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

According to the available data, the plane took off from the region of Debrecen, Hungary, around 5.30 pm, without an approved flight plan and without launching the electronic means of identification of the transponder type.

The plane was intercepted in Hungarian airspace by two Hungarian JAS 39 Gripen military aircraft at 5:38 p.m.

The light aircraft did not respond to radio interrogations or visual signals from military aircraft.

At around 5.49 pm, the plane entered Romanian airspace in the Oradea region, accompanied by two Hungarian military planes.

Romania and Hungary have a cross-border agreement on sky protection.

At 5:58 p.m., the Hungarian planes returned to base, the two-seater being taken over by two US Air Force F-16 aircraft stationed at 86th Fetes Air Base, which were on a patrol mission in Romanian airspace.

The mission of the two American planes was similar - radio interrogation, visual identification and escorting the target plane.

At 18.36, the American planes returned to the 86th air base, and the mission of the air police was taken over by two F-16 planes of the Romanian Air Force, departing from the same air base.

Romanian military planes intercepted the two-seater plane at 6:42 p.m. and continued the interrogation and escort mission.

The target plane, which remained unresponsive to radio and visual signals, entered Serbian airspace at around 7pm in the area between Drobeta Turnu Severin and Korbovo.

Around 19.09 the "target" plane crossed into the airspace of Bulgaria.

The two Romanian F-16 planes fulfilled their mission and returned to Fetes around 7.46 pm, "the Romanian ministry said in a statement.

Bulgarian authorities are currently investigating the area of ​​the last known target position of the aircraft in order to identify it and establish details.

There is no mention of where the plane landed.
