Five people died due to inhalation of poisonous gas inside the well

Balaghat:

Five people, including three brothers, were allegedly inhaled by poisonous gas while cleaning a well in a village in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district on Wednesday and one person complained of breathlessness.


Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Vijay Davar said that initially at around 3 pm in Kudan village, two people had descended to clean the well, when they did not come out for a long time, the owner of the well Puneet Kharchande and three others. He went down to the well to see what happened below.

Five people died in the well after inhaling the suspected poisonous gas, while another complained of difficulty in breathing, he said.

The five deceased have been identified as Tameshwar Belsare (20), Puneet Khurchande (32), Pannu Khurchande (30), Mannu Khurchande (27) and Tejlal Markam (32), he said.

The bodies were pulled out from the well with the help of local people.

He said that Palak Scratch somehow survived and he complained of difficulty in breathing.

After that he was admitted to the hospital.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the top officials reached the spot.

Eyewitnesses said that angry villagers protested when the ambulance arrived late on the spot.

The District Magistrate announced an ex-gratia amount of 20 thousand rupees as immediate assistance to the kin of each of the deceased.
