Irina, 52, and Carolina Perlifon, 29, a mother and daughter from Ukraine, tried to flee in February when the city of Kharkov, Ukraine, was attacked.

Carolina states that when two Russian soldiers offered to help them and tried to hide them, their colleagues shot at them.

"My mother was driving a car, she started to panic.

We stopped and saw two Russian soldiers.

We were afraid of the worst, but they actually helped us.

They hid us near the garage, they stayed close to us for 15 minutes, but she noticed that another group of soldiers started firing at them.

A soldier begged them not to shoot, he started crying.

There was a lot of noise and there were screams.

I only heard gunshots, blood everywhere.

I was convinced I was going to die A bullet, and when I saw my mother I started shivering.

The bullet ended up in her head, she was dead.

"I was scared, I could not believe what was happening," said Carolina.

She escaped, but the shooting continued.

She managed to get the wounded Russian into the car so they could escape.

"No one deserves this.

We were trying to get out.

"My life was ruined," said the 29-year-old Ukrainian.

General Zelenov Evgenij Alexandrovic was charged with war crimes for ordering soldiers to shoot at civilians.

An international arrest warrant has been issued for the Russian general.
