Many of the lakes in the Rila National Park are under serious threat of turning into swamps.

Scientists and employees of the park directorate alerted about this at a scientific conference, BNR reported.

If the harmful effects are not limited, in 10 years we will lose the Seven Rila Lakes, as well as the two lakes below Mount Musala.

One of the most serious problems threatening the circus, in which the Seven Rila Lakes are, is the great tourist pressure and pollution, admits the director of Rila National Park Vladimir Milushev and adds the second reason is the strong erosion.

The condition of the tourist trails is not good and at the moment the efforts are focused on their restoration with natural materials.

The length of the marked routes is 20 kilometers, but with the unregulated paths it becomes over 60 kilometers.

Can the sad forecast for the lakes be changed?

Is the process of turning them into swamps reversible?

Scientists are adamant that the presence of tourists in the most endangered areas should be limited.

According to Milushev, there is a way to at least slow down the development of negative processes.
