Russia has begun to increase its military presence in Syria, the Anatolian Agency reported.

According to Turkish media, Moscow has deployed anti-aircraft missile systems in the town of Kamishli.

Planes of the Russian armed forces conducted a demonstration flight over the city of Tal Rifat.

"Fighting units of the Russian armed forces are deployed in other parts of northern Syria," the Anatolian Agency added.

According to Ankara media: Moscow's goal is to shut down pro-Iranian militias in Syria.

In this regard, Russian forces in late May prevented a Tehran representative from meeting with a Kurdish paramilitary commander.

"The news of the increase in Russia's military presence in Syria came amid speculation that Moscow plans to reduce its contingent in the Middle East to free up resources for its war against Ukraine," the newsroom said.

Zelensky: Russia will use thugs from Syria

"Earlier, the Israeli website Debka wrote that Russia was considering handing over its bases in Syria to Iran. The publication in question was not confirmed by Damascus, Moscow or Tehran," the news added.
