Astronomers identify around 116,000 new variable stars

Most of the stars in the sky have almost constant luminosity.

But there is another type of stars whose brightness changes greatly, known as "variable stars", which astronomers liken these stars to stellar laboratories because of the changes these stars undergo.

It will help reveal important information about the mass, radius, temperature and composition of stars.

Even our sun is a variable star.

Recently, astronomers from Ohio State University in the United States.

Approximately 116,000 newly identified variable stars have been identified by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) project, a key tool in the search for star systems.

In particular, supernova surveys using 20 telescopes around the world, astronomers said.

For years the ASAS-SN project has been exploring the sky using V-band optical filters, which are optical lenses that can identify stars of light as a spectrum of colors visible to the naked eye. But in 2018, the project changed that. Go for a g-band filter, a lens that can detect a wider range of blue light.

And the network has gone from observing about 60 million stars at a time to more than 100 million.

The new study focuses on data from the Gaia Space Telescope.

which is the task of creating accurate 3D maps of astronomical objects across the galaxy.
